We leave for Portland on Sunday and with the car full of stuff and kids we feel we are prepared. We stop at every rest stop along the way to let the kids out and have a stretch of their legs as well as mine & William’s. Between movies and our stops the kids were pretty happy and the drive went fairly smoothly and quickly too.
At one of the stops a woman brought out her dog for the kids to pet on. We had seen her at a few of the other stops, they were headed to California to visit their family. Ruth enjoyed playing with the dog.
We saw a baby bird that had been knocked out of the nest, it looked like it had been knocked out by a predator because there was a hole in it’s chest. Ruth wanted to take it with us but I had to explain that it’s mommy would miss it if we took it, (a small lie because I was sure that the mommy couldn’t help it and neither could I).
We stopped at some pretty rest stops in the Gorge and snapped a few pictures of the kids against the pretty backdrop that had been provided for us that day.
Soon we made it to Don & Sarah’s and in record time too, 7 hours!!! Usually it takes us about 8 hours but some how we shaved an hour off. We ate dinner and then rested after our long drive.
Day 2:
Because we had such bad luck with a new optical store in Nampa and ended up getting our money back we decided to go to Binyon’s in Tigard at the mall so that we could get glasses done in an hour. We both needed new glasses and were very happy when they actually got them done when they said they would and we saved ourselves about $100 getting them there and we also saved ourselves the expense of tax.
With our new glasses we headed out to the game store and got some new mini dice for each of us and then went to Powell’s book store (we soooo missed this store!) and picked up some Dungeons and Dragons books for William and the kids picked out a book to read in the car.
We then ate lunch at Sherry’s and then we headed out to Toys R Us to get a toy for the kids because we forgot to bring any for them…(I guess we were in just too big a hurry!).
Then we headed back to Don & Sarah’s for more rest and relaxation and dinner….
Day 3:
We headed out to my Mom & Dad’s for some good quality time before heading out to my Sister’s place. My Mom had a tea party all set up for the kids, each kid got a tea pot and their own cup…so fun!
Ruth really loved it and while we had our tea Dad & Rocky were walking around snapping pictures while I snapped away too. It was such a fun idea and I know the kids just had a blast! (below are images taken by Papa & Ruth from the tea party - just wanted to share a different perspective!)
After the Tea Party we headed out to my sister's. Mom had to work for a bit and would meet us there for dinner and pictures. She gave me directions (which btw were super easy!! Thanks Mom!). Trenton & Tanis were out on the porch waiting for us and we had a nice visit while Trenton made "The best ever Mac n' cheese" as the kids said, for lunch.
Did I mention her house is haunted? Well it is...or so Nana told the kids and a moving bike confirmed it for the kids.
Soon Isaiah and Robbie were home from work and Mom & Dad showed up and we had dinner from Big Kahuna's and boy was it yummy as ever. The guy who owns it has been featured on several food network shows. Let me tell you he so deserves a lot more recognition for his food. YUM-O!
After dinner I dragged everyone out for pictures and I had a blast photographing everyone. (did I mention that not a single person cooperated with me!) I hope everyone is happy with what I captured. Miss you guys already!!
***More about our trip to come, just need to edit a bit more from the last few days***
