{Weight Loss Weigh In: Week 11}

Well it's Friday again, so here I am putting my weight out there for all to see. Yes I am pregnant and I am not doing anything to harm my growing jellybean -  I have just added some low impact exercise to my day and I am more conscious about what I put into my body, thus the slow and steady weight loss.

It's the little changes that sometimes can make the biggest impact. I also don't deny myself anything - if I want something I go ahead and have some - but I don't over do it and I try to keep my portions down to a healthy size.

(Found the above image HERE)

I look at my plate like the image above shows and it has helped me to stay full longer and I am more satisfied.

Excerpt from The Great Plate:

"The Great Plate concept is designed to be an easy way to control portion sizes and create a healthier meal, simply by dividing a 10-inch size plate into three sections.

* Half of the plate is filled with non-starchy vegetables such as green beans, tossed salad or carrots.
* A quarter is filled with lean protein such as skinless chicken, non-fried fish, tofu or lean cuts of beef or pork.
* And the final quarter is filled with whole grains or starchy vegetables such as whole wheat bread, pasta, rice, corn, peas or potatoes.
* There are also recommendations for food categories that are not always present in every meal such as fats and fruits.

The "Great Plate" also addresses one of the biggest challenges people face when it comes to eating healthier—understanding portion sizes. Most don't realize that portions have changed dramatically over the last two decades. What we think is one serving is, in actuality, closer to two or even three servings. For example, 25 years ago, your average bagel had a three-inch diameter and contained 140 calories; today, the average bagel has a six-inch diameter and is 350 calories. Your average order of French fries was 2.4 ounces and 210 calories 25 years ago, but today it is 6.9 ounces and 610 calories."

So as you can see, it's a very helpful tool and combined with the low impact exercise, (pregnancy pilates,  walking as well as some yoga),  my weight loss has been slow and steady and fairly consistent - although I do know that soon my weight loss will turn around and I am ok with that because it means jellybean is growing and taking up more room. I just want to be more healthier, (losing weight is a bonus right now).

You can find many more videos on youtube about prenatal exercises and different exercises to help ease labor. The above video is one I have been using as well as a few on my last weight loss post.

So as you can see changing how I look at my plate and making my meals more rounded and healthier combined with some low impact exercises I am actually making some progress. Who knew all that stuff you have been hearing for years is really true!

healthy me!"
